Here it is, the best and most urgent Powerviolence record to come out in a long fucking time. Curmudgeon - S/T. Curmudgeon comes from the Northeast of course, like most good hardcore (F.U. naysayers). This band is pummeling. I feel like they are 60% crawling, sludgy breakdowns, and 40% blast beats (which is so much more fun live than nonstop fast parts). Ryan and Ryan manage to create an absolutely gargantuan sound without the help of a bassist, which is impressive. Krystina’s vocals are burly as hell and become exponentially more furious sounding once you learn her lyrics. I’m also really stricken with how creative the drumming on this record is. The production is the perfect balance of rawness and clarity. I’m championing this record and band not only because they are amazing people (and oh so stylish), but also because of the relevance of their music. Everything from the guitar tone to the cover artwork is just perfect. This is a band that has something important to say and knows exactly how to fucking say it. These punks are the real deal - full of disgust and artistry.

Got this at goodwill for 3 bucks. It’s a texas instruments PHP 2700 Program Recorder and was meant to record digital data on cassettes back in the early days of computation. The recordings it makes are pretty sweet so I think I’ll start recording my solo songs on this. Maybe I’ll put out a tape in the future?
